For a material I'd say it probably needs to be made out of a Stainless Steel

I'd stick with stainless - for medical purposes. Any sort corrosion is unacceptable for this type of application I'd imagine

Check out some of the web sites of companies that supply steam autoclaves. They may provide some of the information that you're looking for.

Is this a school exercise/project or are you reinventing the wheel? What size or capacity?

It will be a pressure vessel and local jurisdiction may require that it be built to meet code.

Autoclaves are available commercially for Steam or Electrical operation.

Aluminum is to be avoided as it can corrode and is costly. Stainless steel or glass lined tanks are often used for this.

As someone said, get a boiler code book, it tells all.

is this a dry or wet autoclave? A dry one is low pressure, just heated dry air. A wet one is high pressure steam at 120C or more and needs to be very strongly made with dual safety valves for over pressure.

i ll design for the wet one.this is because the parameter for sterilization is 121 degreeC and 2.1 bar.So with wet one,i can get the high pressure.

thank you.
