hi,

there are many autorun.inf viruses out there. Usually your Avirus software will detect and delete it. In some instances the Av software is unable to delete.

If your av software cannot delete the virus, do the following..:-

  1. Check it is up to date
  2. Try out custom tools available from many of the big AV companies. E.G. stinger from Mcafee. These tools are free.
  3. Turn off the autorun feature of windows via windows policy. This allows USB storage devices to be recognised but you have to execute the program manually. This will reduce attack surface area.

I run 2 AV packages on my machine (i am an IT administrator, so i see lots of funnies) and not all packages react the same way and with the same speed to the prescence of a particular virus. Granted, this is overkill for most people.

A USB drive can be password protected. I have not done it myself. Suggest you google that one. I am sure an application can be downloaded to achieve this.

regards, Dave
