Pipes and Cold Bending

06/26/2009 11:02 AM

is it ok to use elasticity of pipe instead of cold bends in the pipeline if yes then what is the favourable limit.

and why we do that for time saving cost implication?

What is the meaning of use elasticity of pipe ?

If it means what I think it does then no. This will stress the joints and supports and that is a highly undesirable practice. And in addition the bends (elastic) will not be uniformly stressing the length of the pipe because of the unequal stiffnesses along the length.

Unless the service conditions are too mild (like PVC conduits of electrical wiring ) I don't propose it.

Dear Guest, (I wish I knew your name. Try signing up!)

No probs with elastic bends in pipelines. You can use for side bends and sag bends without too much trouble. However, they are not the best practice for overbends. We have just installed 18" pipes with 600D elastic bends. Don't go any tighter than this.

Why we do this should be self evident.

Best of Luck
