Selecting a Welding Electrode

Dear all,

kindly advise me which welding electode/filler wire can be used for A 335 Gr.P22 to S.S 316 materials.

You can use 309 or 309Mo for lower temperatures, but if creep/high temperature is an issue - you should use a nickel-base alloy filler metal such as ERNiCr-3 or ENiCrFe-2

Yes, P5A with P8 plus Temp. Use E-CrNiFe2 (Iconel 182)

Remember to pre heat 150 C and mazx interpass 400 C..

I would suggest an inconel 182 electrode for this bi metal weld. While it is ok to use a 309 on stainless to carbon steel welds it is not ok to use a 309 on stainless chrome moly. I went through this problem many years ago when welding stainless steel thermowells in to chrome moly steam lines. I ended up writing a new WPS, PQR and and qualified welders for this very thing.
