VFD or call variable frequency Drive can be used in any motors depends on the application needed.

In the stone crusher machine, it also can be used, if you indent to control the crushing speed of your crusher machine. All crusher machines, whether it is a coke crusher, or lime crusher or stone crusher has motors that couple to a very high torque gear box.

The speed of the crusher machine is usaually run with a slow speed rotation. Of course, you have to pay more money for the VFD system.

I have done it many times with much larger motors. But crushers are not in any way alike, and depending on the type, there is usually no benefit in varying the speed. The only type I have encountered that will provide a tangible benefit is a Vertical Shaft Impactor (VSI) crusher. The gradation of the output product will vary by virtue of the speed, so if for example the crusher is designed to make fine sand at 800RPM, you can have it create larger grains at 200RPM. Fo most other types of crushers, Horizontal Impactors, Gyratory (Cone), Hammer Mills, Jaws and Roll Crushers, the change in speed actually causes a significant ;loss of throughput efficiency by increasing the recycle rate.

In other words, it's not something you do just for the sake of doing it. You may not get the results you think you will. Why don't you explain why you want to do this and what kind of machine you have in mind?

Energy saving is the only reason why I am thinking of VFD for Stone crusher. (Also very good business oportunity)

crusher blade movement is horizontal (to and fro) , this inturn driven by a tight belt connected to Pully at motor shaft.

I am not very sure on Speed range for this application , so can we really save the energy ?

Since your stone crusher is driven by the tight belts connected to Pulley at motor shaft, the final speed of your stone crusher had already been reduce by the ratio of the pulleys. In general, your motor will run at 100% speed and the final speed of your stone crusher is the ratio of your motor pulley and the stone crusher pulley.

By installation the VFD to your stone crusher with the pulleys intact, it will not serve any purpose.

Some application where the VFD is usually used in is as follows:

  • Water Pump
  • Fans
  • overhead Cranes
  • Transfer Car
  • Rotating machines and these machines that need to have certain slow speed for control

Even for water pump usage, the minimum speed is has to be at 75% to 80 % of the full speed of the motor. Any speed less than 75% or 80% is not suitable as the required water flow rate and pressure will decrease.
