UPS problem APC 2200 when i test mode goes into default says to much load when nothing connected battery indicater flickers between full and 80% even though no load on unit any ideas Martin.
I wish you luck trying to find any information on APCs. I have tried several times. APC basically says to stick it. They will trade in your ups or sell you batteries for a price. New batteries fix about 70% of the failures I have seen on the APC brand. Usually batteries give you a solid failure, not what you're describing, but you never know till you try. I always try batteries first since we keep them in stock.
OK thanks I do not thinkl it is a battery problem either. All read 12.5 or higher but do not act like that as for as the indicator leds show. thanks again Martin
Yes , it is possible that it is not the battery. But with the information that you provided:
battery indicater flickers between full and 80% even though no load on unit
One can speculate that, if the indicator is good, then when circuit is working on battery only, even if it is not an external load, the electronics will draw some current. In a normal charged battery, the "load" that the electronics poses to the battery is small, and the indicator should not move. But if the battery is bad, the voltage on it varies very much at even small loads.

Good answer - we have pretty much given up on refurbishing APC ups's with new batteries after their original battery life is used up, usually 3-4 (or if we were lucky-5)years.
We haven't had much luck with any kind of reliability doing this. Them can seem to fail at any time without warning - usually at the most critical time.
Their ad slogan suggests "legendary reliability" but we here at our lab question that claim, and have switched to a more reliable competitor's product.
