Oh c'mon...
If you have decided on the topic, sketch out what you plan to achieve in ahieveable chunks (except you call them something more impressive like stages or phases, or feasibility, prototype input stage, prototype output module, breadboard version A etc) and then get on with it.

A good trick is to make the project simple yet expandable. Simple so that you can be sure to acheive your objectives, expandable so that if you finish it too easilly or too early you can keep going and make the project bigger and better.

How can you have advanced to phd level without any idea of planning a project?
What on earth do your written reports look like?
Sorry if this sounds harsh, maybe you've simply worded your question badly, but then the same criticisms would surely apply?.

"how to decide "

1) Which one will get you more girls?

2) Which one will get you more money or prestige?

3) Which one will improve mankinds material welfare?

4) Which one will be easier for you to do?

5) Which one will be really interesting and fun?

6) Which one will your advisor and review committee be best able to support?

7) Which one will land you a job with your employer of choice?

These are all helpful criteria for how to decide.

I regret I cannot tell you how to decide on which of these to select.

hi shrutiq,

IMHO, one can get the most out of post-graduate degrees if one gains the working or business experience FIRST. I'm not being judgmental, but you do make yourself sound like you're at a loss on how to proceed with this activity. it would be best if you can take into your PhD classroom a wealth of wisdom, and take out from it the tools that you can use in your profession.

experience is still the best teacher.
