Why don't you study the ASME Codes? sufficient informations along with the formats are there in the Section IX (QW 482 for format).

The ASME articles I, II, IV and V are quite elaborate (though a bit complex)

There are some good books available like "CASTI guidebook to ASME Sec IX" is the one that comes to mind, but there may be a few others too.
