Acid Sludge Reclaimantion

07/14/2009 9:59 AM

I read an interesting post from Mr. Keith E. Bowers, who answered a question about acid sludge from re-refining waste oil. However, I have a client in Bangkok who has about 7,000 mt of acid sludge that I have been working on to produce a bitumen type product. I am wondering if there is a short-cut to extracting the H2SO4 (about 25-30%) by wt. from the acid sludge. Presently I am washing the scludge with H20 & a pH altering agent, but this uses a lot of H20 & time. Also interested if feasible to separate the acid from the water via distillation or other means.

Where in Bangkok, what process is the acid sludge from? what you are doing just consume too much time, waste water and heat, but surely it is 1 way to turn it into valuable product such as yours blown asphalt. however you may also look into better alternatives like soil amendment using acid sludge as main additives. My factory produce 1 ton of such waste daily and we convert it into fertilizer, or if you just want to get rid of it you may look at mixing fly ash into the acid sludge the end product is a harmless powder or sand like material which you can dump it in any landfill or use it as a mixer for cement or bricks making (+/- 10% additive)...
