CAS Number where I get?

07/17/2009 6:10 AM

Hi,

I'm in need of the CAS no. for the chemicals we're utilizing.

I searched it in website, but I witnessed the below

a)Same Element/Compound having two different CAS no.

b)Some of the element/compound not having CAS no

I get confused.

Can anybody give me the correct website, where I can access all the CAS no for the chemicals.

Looking forward to your timely support.

Hari

The CAS number should be on the MSDS which the manufacture or supplier can provide you. You should already have the MSDS all of chemicals at your work site in a book. In US it is required and the book submitted to Fire Department so they know what they are getting in to if there is a fire.

This site may answer any other question that you have on CAS numbers.

Here is a good site to train You to find the info you need.

http://depth-first.com/articles/2008/05/26/simple-cas-number-lookup-and-more-with-chempedia

If the CAS number isn't on your MSDS, but you have the chemical name, this is a good site to use:

http://www.chemindustry.com/apps/chemicals

FInally, I have found that sites sponsored by us or state government or government agencies also have good listings. You can generally tell by the words "NIST" "GOV" "EPA" "STATE" etc in the link itself.

Without a specific example, I won't speculate as to how the same chemical has two different CAS numbers in your search.
