Coolant for CNC

12/07/2006 9:42 PM

i am the owner of a small cnc shop. it costs us $5.10 cdn per litre for "trusyn 60" , a synthetic coolant mix, that's $102.00 per pail. can someone suggest something comparable for a cheaper $$$$ ?

vegetable oil..... Cleans off the machined parts very easy. If you run it through a filter and add some on occasion it will last for some time.

my coolant resevoir is approx 250 litres , what's the ratio of veggy oil to coolant you would use ? my coolant is filtered, and i have an oil skimmer to remove way lube from it, therefore no need to dump it. i use synthetic mix because it seems to give me longer tool life , doesn't irritate the skin and doesn't stink as opposed to oil based mix. thanks alot for your input.

why are you using sythetic? How is it consumed? When do you dump it? Why do you dump it? Do you filter it? Is there way oils contaminating the coolant? Does it stink?

i use synthetic coolant mix because it doesn't irritate the skin as oil does, and gives me longer tool life and because i use an oil skimmer and is filtered theres no need to dump it due to way lube contamination and that god-awful stink, so i just keep topping it up. you may save $$$$ on oil based mix but you've got to put up with all those nasties not to mention environmental disposal fees , so in the end it's probably more expensive and certainly more of maintenance head-ache using oil based mix, i'm just trying to find a better $$$$$$$$ on a comparable synthetic mix than the $5.10 cdn per litre i am currently paying. if you know of a better $$ for synthetic coolant mix i'd appreciate knowing of it, the $$$$ , and where i can get it !!!!

You should be recirculating that synthetic coolant. Just run it through an automotive oil filter.

I have had good results from Castrol Superedge 6759 you can buy it local or from Grainger or Mc Master Carr.
