cleaning stainless steel with ethanol

07/29/2009 9:35 AM

we have noticed that when cleaning stainless steel with ethanol with a piece of cotton tissue, in the "cleaned" steel part, a "grey" halo appears. Anyone could explain me why?

Never had the experienceof "halos" when cleaning surgical stainless steel with ethanol. Assuming the entire peice in question has been cleaned, perhaps impurities in the ethanol have been left as a deposit after evapouration of the ethanol?

...and agree with Stinky...*hic*

We were using pure (absolute) ethanol...not cleaning the entire piece as a whole, but just parts of it, with a piece of cotton. Thanks for your help.
