2003 MB C240 Fuse #65

07/29/2009 11:15 AM

Hi There:

I have a 2003 MB C240 only for few months now.

In a visual inspection I came across a burnt fuse but everything is working fine.

Fuse number 65 which is a large 40AMP fuse was burnt and I replaced it with same and it blow again.

In the legend there is nothing under that fuse number and I have no Idea what is for!

Can some one help?

Also my OBD2 reader which works on my other makes does not read the MB but at one point I had the following codes read by a garage P0410 and P335b it was reset and they never came back.

Is there a trick to this car to read the OBD codes?

What are the codes I received before?

Your answers are much appreciated.

Thanks

Bijan

The fuse #65 Is for the electric air injection pump. That is also the code PO410. The PO 335 looks to be for the crankshaft position sensor signal. I would try to find the AIR pump problem first. There is most likely a short to the pump, or it is bad and requires so much current to try and start that it blows the fuse. Hope this helps.

Hi Frank:

Thanks for the advise, Where is the Air pump and what does it do?

Would this result in the engine not starting?

I have had two incident that it took many try for the engin to start.

Thanks again for your help.

The air pump is there to blow air in the exhaust while the engine is cold and during a restart to help the catalytic convertor heat up faster or burn the excess fuel during therestart. The pump is either in the front center of the engine or right front of engine compartment. The two incidents where the engine wouldn't start may have been intermittant failures of the crank position sensor (code PO335). The engine needs this signal to run.

Hi all:

Well the worst happened and car died on the ramp to Lincoln tunel to Newyork.

Towing, car rental, extra night hotel, $$$, and it was the Crank Shaft Poition Sensor Code #P0335.

If you see it, don't ignor it, FIX IT.

I am in process of changing the AIR pump now.

Will report back.

Is emissions stuff...

Code (PO410) causes a safe mode.

A secondary air pump code, the supercharger acts as the pump to heat the catalytic converter during warm up.

Remove the hose between the vacuum solenoid, and check valve (the secondary air injection circuit starts just before the throttle body with an appx. 1" hose), start the car and verify that the solenoid was opening for a minute or so, then closing. Then attempt to blow through the check valve into the exhaust. Remove and install new check valve and reset the cel. Note; the check valve is a pain to remove since it is located between the engine and firewall, threaded (rusted) on and basically part of the exhaust system.

The Denso part appears to be #300. The brass looking check valve downstream is #250.

the (dealer) parts guy had the Denso part at $85 and the brass one at $86

Duval in FL. generally has the lowest prices.Their part number for #300 is different than the Denso-labelled unit.
