is, "DW30" anything like WD40?

We can't read your mind.

We don't know where you are, except for your cute "earth" location, what the environment is, what means you have to solve the problem.

Reduce the relative humidity of the storage area, or, do you want one of us to come to "earth" and wipe your nose for you, too? DF

samp

Look up "Ensis Fluids" (there are many other makes, but this is one that I know - usual disclaimers). I think that for what you describe Ensis Fluid E would be suitable, but you can decide for yourself which of the products would suit you.

Stuff like DW30, WD40 etc are OK, but not specifically designed for preservation.

We use Molykote Metal protector plus (it is available in spray and can) for the storage (in shade) it works well.

For longer storage the waxed preservatives with the VCI (vapour corrossion inhibitors) are good. Id depends on the size and usage. The waxed ones have long preservation and can be used in hot dip (the gauges etc in our calibration labs are preserved with it)

Thanks sb, I will check the Molykote Metal protector plus. I think we have to use some de-greasing agents also to remove the coating of anti rust corrosion coating? we are using VCI paper for the parts exported through ship.

For metal protector it is necessary to clean the surface of oil etc. As may be preferred for the other (ie the wax too).

In India there are quite a few suppliers of preservatives- There is one in Pune(I think Suprabha or some name like that) and one in chennai (For got the name, but has a product called guardian, you can google that) whose product we have tried out.

Of course they do not compare with the Molykote, but still for you check the cost benefit and decide.

Thank The Prof. I will check the Ensis Fluids. WD40 is Rust Removal, and DW30 is rust preventive oil.

Check out a non toxic product called Fluid Film. Never dries, been used by the Navy for years. Tested better than LPS-3 which I've been using effectively for years.
