1997 Chevy Cavalier - Blinking Engine Light

Take it to the shop. You don't know what's wrong, and the odds are very good that even if someone could explain what is wrong with your car with absolutely no useful information provided by you, you could not repair it yourself, so, why waste everyone's time .

WOW I can't believe you were so rude! If someone could just give us some ideas to ck that would be great but this world is rough enough without the rudeness. I am not even sure what information to include.

If you can't describe the problem, how can anyone help. Take the time and go back to the dozens of these posts that come in each week and see how many get resolved. You do know how to look at previous posts?

Or buy a code reader. Or just indiscriminately start changing things out.

Get a repair manual.

Get help.

Your physical geographic location would be of extreme influence when time to advise of a solution to the problem.

Thank you! We are in Michigan and yesterday it rained alot. We don't want to drive it anyway in case it is the timing chain

I have looked at different posts to get ideas on were to start. My husband is outside looking at the plugs and wires. I am just asking for ideas in case that does not work. We just bought the car a week ago for our daughter and it was running great until she went to leave, she started it up and right away it sounded rough and the light was on. The car did not come with a manual. We can not afford a to just start changing parts.

At this point it could be anything. If is the timing chain then damage is already done so just drive it to Auto-Zone and talk to the counter-person. It is a standard policy that they will run a free diagnostic check to determine faults.

A blinking check engine light means you have a misfire severe enough to cause damage to the catalyst. definitely check the plugs and wires first.
