ABB Speed Drive

08/11/2009 2:47 PM

Hi to all,

Im using ABB ACS800 speed drive to control 3ph induction motor. The problem im facing is there's no voltage supplied to the motor when signal is sent to the spped drive using plc micro controller. The input voltage to the speed drive is around 230-240v but the volatge that supplied to the motor is only around 50v.I have done all the settings in the speed drive.

Pls advice me on what could be the reason the motor is not running. Thank you.

99.9% chance you have not set something up properly. The ACS800 is an extremely complex and powerful VFD, not meant for the casual user. For starters you have not posted anywhere near enough information for someone to troubleshoot it for you across the internet; there are literally thousands of possibilities to consider with just the little bit you have given. Did you call ABB's tech support? They are trained to step through a set of probative questions to narrow the field of possibilities. Start there.

The most probable cause if parameter are correctly set is the firing voltage are wrong. Check power supply.

Good luck!

Try the configuration on page 71 of the manual, but note that the analog outputs AO1 and AO2 are not essential to run, neither relay outputs RO1, RO2 and RO3 are. Make sure you have ajumper from X22 pin8 to X22 pin11, this is the START INTERLOCK (see parameter 21.09). Now you can bench-test the system by connecting X22 pin8 to X22 pin1 (START) or disconnecting (STOP).

Once you have it run, verify you gather the same conditions when your PLC controls the drive (use a multimeter).

P.S. Don't forget to connect a 0 to 10VDC speed reference from X21 pin2 (Gnd.) to X21 pin3 (Inp. +).

I forgot to mention that if you don't have the manual:

1.- You don't need anything connected to X20,X21, X22, X23, X25, X26 and X27 except the connections I mentioned in my previous post.

2.- You have to supply the correct voltage to the drive and have the motor connected.

Also check your speed ref. signal to your drive.
