Skin Effect Heat Tracing Systems

12/13/2006 11:13 AM

From where can i get the design basis of skin effect heat tracing systems ? a 17 Km long fuel oil line is maintained at 83 degrees . Three phase power , 6.6 kv at 50 Hz is available. By increased power frequency (60 Hz ), will i get more heat generated ?

Have you tried "googling" it on the web? What about companies such as http://www.thermon.com or similar, who actually make the products. Should be a good place to start. If I had to make a guess, I would say that changing from 50Hz to 60Hz would not generate more heat.

We design and supply skin effect systems. It will have a small but measurable effect, due to the way skin effect systems work.
