American Standard Taper Pin Angle

12/13/2006 3:35 PM

Good Afternoon, How can i get the degrees of a #6 taper pin (commercial and precision)? I obtain 0.6226 and 0.6302, respectively, only measuring the drawing in the 3/4" length, with large end at 0.3413 and small end at 0.325, but if I increase to the next measure (1"), I get a different degree.

Thanks for your help.

Agustinb.

Taper is supposed to be 1/4 inch per foot or about .021 inches per inch.

Sorry, the 0.62565" was not for a taper pin but for a taper shank.

Good morning Agustin. The taper on commercial class pins is 0.250+/- 0.006 inch per foot and on the precision class pins is 0.250+/- 0.004 inch per foot of lenght. The major diameter of both commercial and precision classes of pins is the diameter of the large end and is the basis for pin size. 1/4 taper per foot included angle is 1° 11' 37'' and the angle with center line is 0° 35' 49'' . N° 6 taper pin basic pin diameter (major diameter) is 0.3410''. Reference: Machinery's Handbook 25 Edition, Industrial Press INC.

Thanks for your answer Luis, that info i know it, from the Machinery's Handbook 26 Editon. But when i made the drawing in AutoCad, how i can draw the taper, because i draw the larger and the smaller diameter, with the distance that the table mention, and i measure the angle of the taper and it gaves me a different angle every time.

How i can get the angle of the taper side of the cone.

regards, and thanks for your help.
