Other than glass transition Tg...

08/21/2009 10:24 AM

Im aware of what the glass transition temperature is and the effects it has on strength of the material etc. Is there a similar temperature for materials (specifically pvc) at the lower end of the thermometer? Will the mechanical properties of the material change below some temperature, ie 10 C, 5 C, 0 C?

I don't believe it undergoes another phase change as the temp decreases, it just gets more brittle.

There's more where this came from:Failue Analysis of PVC Pipe

Agreed, however is there some known temperature where this occurs drastically more than anywhere else? And of this point exists for PVC, does it exist for other materials as well and how is it calculated? Thanks
