Why can I get no cursor in the message box?

I am unable to type in the message box in CR4 replies or asking a question, only in the title. You saw that I could put in the little faces. The problem is in Internet Explorer 6; I am now using Mozilla Firefox for this reply. I am unable to login using it, so I hope I will get notified of you reply to me as a guest. To get here I clicked on "1 message updated" or some such thing at the top of the screen. I have tried re-loading IE6 from a CD, but get an error message. I went to Microsoft.com and tried to download sp1, but it timed out. I have the slow 56k- system. I am running Windows 2000 on this machine. It is a Pentium 3 with 128K of ram.
