ASME B16.5/16.47 Blind Flanges

08/25/2009 1:24 PM

I am in need of the thickness for an ASME B16.5/16.47 Blind Flange cover plate at 30 psi at 100F. Can someone give me guidance in this calculation?

Thank You!

if it is a std flange then you can refer asme B16.5/16.47, as you have not specified the size of blind flange.

and if it is a non std flange then refer ASME secVIII div1, UG34, thickness calculation for flat heads.

any doubts u can ask.................

what is the pipe size do you need to blind?what is the medium, so that you can choose material? for your application a normal class 150 blind flanges is enough. if you want to fabricate from normal MS plate then give me the pipe size and medium, if you dont have b16.5 standard i can provide you dimension from b16.5. Hello tomak,

I am still looking but have posted these details below. Please let me know if they are any use? Of course this is just the site address:

=

Here is a quick rundown of the standard ASME B16.5 2009.

This Standard covers pressure-temperature ratings, materials, dimensions, tolerances, marking, testing, and methods of designating openings for pipe flanges and flanged fittings. Included are:

flanges with rating class designations 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, and 1500 in sizes NPS 1/2 through NPS 24 and flanges with rating class designation 2500 in sizes NPS 1/2 through NPS 12, with requirements given in both metric and U.S.

Customary units with diameter of bolts and flange bolt holes expressed in inch units flanged fittings with rating class designation 150 and 300 in sizes NPS 1/2 through NPS 24, with requirements given in both metric and U.S.

Customary units with diameter of bolts and flange bolt holes expressed in inch units flanged fittings with rating class designation 400, 600, 900, and 1500 in sizes NPS 1/2 through NPS 24 and flanged fittings with rating class designation 2500 in sizes 1/2 through NPS 12 that are acknowledged in Nonmandatory Appendix E in which only U.S. Customary units are provided

This Standard is limited to:

flanges and flanged fittings made from cast or forged materials blind flanges and certain reducing flanges made from cast, forged, or plate materials Also included in this Standard are requirements and recommendations regarding flange bolting, gaskets, and joints.

I have given the site address below because there is a choice of three or four categories and you know what you want and perhaps can choose an appropriate one?

Below this sentence is the address the piece above was on:

Hello tomak,

I do not really know why 'we' have to pay for these publications at all. There is some site that I think I told you of one, which gave the spec for the ASME flanges you asked about.

Have you been to either or any of the sites I wrote about?

Take care........

Hi Tomak,

Download the .zip file and extract it. It is a flange data system program from a company called Welding Units.

It has all the dimensional data for ANSI B16.5, MSS-SP-44, Taper-Lok, API 6A and 17D flanges.

This program contains data for blinds too so may be of some use to you although I cannot guarantee anything.

Kind Regards

Kev Brown
