Would you please explain why you are confused? Do you not understand what a switch is?

A prox sensor is a prox detector; it detects that a certain type of object (or whatever) is close (within range). A switch is a device that has contacts that open or close when a signal is sent to it. A prox switch is a switch activated by a signal sent by a prox sensor.

What you're describing is most probably a prox sensor that generates an electrical signal that activates a prox switch. These two can be separate from one another, or they can be both built into a single unit.

Cheers!
