We have x4 Atlas Copco ZR4 air compressors, and I was interested to know if any engineers have some data on MTBF.Our compressors are about 15 years old, and have been worked hard.
many thanks

The rubber elements in the motor-compressor coupling stretch over time, creating torsional (rotational) vibration problems. Use a strobelight to freeze the coupling, and look at how far out of register the input and output faces of the coupling have crept. Also measure the stretch of removed rubbers and compare them to new ones. Yearly replacement of the coupling rubbers seems to be about right, as the high temperatures normally found inside the machinery cabinet plus the torsional shock of each duty cycle fatigues them rather too quickly.
I have just started here, and I am trying to work through an assessment of relaibility of our machines (x4 ZR4 units @ 250kW each). I have commenced the gathering of operating and maintenance manuals etc, but I do not have a good feel for their reliability in terms of practical run hours to (various levels of) maintenance.
Onwards and upwards!
