Mitigating Infrastructure Corrosion

06/15/2005 12:00 PM

To combat this problem, scientists at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) are developing new monitoring tools such as the multielectrode array sensor (MAS), a device which has helped at least one business determine the best materials to use for piping upgrades at a chemical plant.

3% of the GNP?

Corrosion cost that much? Are they talking about rust or acid wear? Corrosion is a HUGE definition of a wide variety of chemical reactions.
Wikepedia defines it as: Corrosion is deterioration of useful properties in a material due to reactions with its environment.
