Ghost Overlay

12/20/2006 1:07 PM

I have some old blueprints I've had copied and converted into .pdf files. I'm looking for a program wich will allow me to overlay a semi-transparent grid on the .pdf file to asist me in area and linear calculations. I can easily zoom the .pdf file in or out to adjust the scale to match the grid. Any ideas on how I can do this? Thanks in advance for your help. Also if it makes a difference I use "Acrobat Reader" to view the files.

I use programs like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop for tasks like these.

These applications give you the ability to create layers. Your blueprint can be on the base layer and you can create your grids on top layers. The layer's opacity can be adjusted so you can see through the ghosted layer.

You can only open one page of a document each time you open a multipage PDF document. If you only have one page each PDF doc then it will be easy. If you don't have Photoshop it is expensive but you can get a 30 day trial at Adobe downloads.
