VCI Paper for Fastener Protection

I am connected with a manufacturer of steel fasteners. some one suggest me to use VCI Paper to protect fasteners from rust during storage. pl. let me know- How the VCI paper is able to protect the rust? How to use it? How to store it? What is the life of a VCI paper?

VCI= Vapour Corrosion Inhibitor.

The VCI papers are normal absorbant papers dipped or coated with speciality (patented) chemicals. These chemicals release their vapours (that forms a micron thick hydrophobic film on the metals) that act to prevent corrossions in the components that they are wrapped in. You can just have a look into this

You may put the fasteners in alternate layers of the paper and the metal and then seal the whole thing within polythene or any other pack to have the best effect.

Contact any of the local VCI paper suppliers and they will guide you on this aspect.

These are available with different grades and different protection durations, and chose the one that best suits you functionally and economically.

BTW: we recieve sealed bearings from different countries (especially Japan) wrapped in VCI paper. A few, especially Europe are wrapped in VCI impregnated polythene/other plastic woven belts, the third types are simply VCI dipped and sealed in polythene packs.

The effectiveness of the VCI is OK even after the months of sea transport (of course in sealed polythene packs).

yes vci is the optimum solution.....you can apply vci oil or wrap in vci papers.....get in touch with safepack if in india.......www.safepack.com

how can I test the VCI paper. any type of test method is available, like chemical testing or any other testing?

Yes you can test vci paper. The most simple test is the jar test for both contact and vapor phase protection.
