High Bearing Temperature for Decanter Centrifuge

09/24/2009 4:24 AM

HELLO,
I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOUR ADVICE REGARDING OUR DECANTER CENTRIFUGES WHICH HAVE BEEN EXHIBITING HIGH BEARING TEMPERATURES UP TO 97 DEGREE CELSIUS. BASED ON STANDARD, WHAT IS THE OPTIMUM RANGE OF TEMPERATURES FOR DECANTER CENTRIFUGES? PLS HELP US. THANK YOU. RICARDO CINCO

Ricardo

There are just too many possible answers to your question. May I suggest that you let the forum know the make and type (there are many) of your centrifuge, are you decanting something hot, which bearing, how lubricated, type of bearing etc etc etc.

Maybe then some expert will be able to help you.

regards

There are too many factors to known to make a serious analysis.

The best you have a look at the catalogue (technical part) of the bearing manufacturer, try depending on the bearing type SKF, FAG, Timken, a.s.o. In the catalogues there are many indications and listed all parameters one has to know for the admissible temperature definition.

To mention only a few : type of bearing, how it is assembled (pre-load or not), rpm, lubrication, ambient temperature, loads, working cycle, a.s.o.

You cannot get a reliable answer the way you put the question.

If your decanter centrifuges both front & back bearings are oil cooled type check the following:

Check the oil condition and the oil pump is pumping the oil to those bearing via heat exchanger and returning back to system properly. If not check oil discharge pressure or flow to each bearing, check the clogged oil strainer, check the heat exchanger, may be water not flowing to the heat exchanger. Also check & if needs change oil filter and oil too. Typically following data should observe
Cooling oil flow say 6 l/s, Oil Temp. between 45 to 50 deg. C, and Bearing Temp between 55 to 62 deg C.

Further if Cooling flow & temp. within normal parameter and still bearing temp is too high and the centrifuge is not experiencing high vibration check and calibrate bearing temperature sensor too make sure its OK.

Thank you...........M. Huq
