FALK 1120H Grid Type Shaft Coupling

I need to determine the "gap" between the two shafts when the drive coupling is a FALK 1120H type. The coupling is transmitting a steady load from a gearbox through to a boiler ID fan. I think the gap is somewhere of the order of 3 to 6mm but I cannot find a specific FALK document that states this.

Then I was advised that FALK is now RENOLDS and the closest I can get to a grid type coupling with them is a 1120T - but trying to find out if they are dimensionally identical, and interchangable - is like pulling teet!.

Does somebody have a good handle on "The Gap?

Hi,

The gap for this type is maximum 6mm...minimum can be determined based on the float of the shaft during operation.

Many thanks for that. I managed to persevere late last night and finally got a Rexnord document sent to me, that gives 6mm for the coupling size/type we have. You were spot on!

The mechanics did not correctly install the locating bearing on the fan shaft, and so the shaft drifted about 2mm until it touched the gearbox outlet shaft. Then the gearbox outlet shaft bearings failed and we had a giant mess to fix up.

Then we found that the gearbox (which was made in India!) has counterfeit SKF bearings. And that the gearbox upper and lower casings did not have dowels to ensure the fir was exactly the same each time, and that the passages for the bearings were on a taper. Happy days.
