Motor Mounting Name Question

12/30/2006 10:43 PM

Dear

One question regarding motor mounting, i know foot mounted and flange mounted motors. here in the mining we have big fans for underground ventilation, their motors are mounted at the center of the fan using six or more bars to the peripheral, could any one help the technical name of this mounting.

I think they call this axial mount exhaust blower, the fan is on the motor axle and is driven at the speed of the motor.

Suggest you search "mine exhaust", there may be a number of specific terms

Here is a link to a good fan company for your disposal.

The technical name you are looking for is Axial mounted fan, turbine cylinder blower.

The normal term for a mounting of this sort is 'Spider'. For example, Loudspeaker voice coils, dating right back to the 19c, long before the the advent of plastic dome diagphrams, were supported in the magnetic concentric field gap by an arrangement of plastic, (usually phenolic resin), arms - hence spider.

Dear friend,

You have not specified whether you are using a speed reducer. there are three types of mounting to a speed reducer, particularly, a shaft mounted speed reducer. One is foot mounted, flange mounted and the third one is floating. for this floating speed reducer, a tie rod is fixed to the speed reducer so as to transmit the torque. as this is a floating gear box, a motor mounting is fixed over the gear box it self. When the gear box floats, motor mounting also floats and hence there is not change in the c-c distance of motor and gear box pulley. This is a commonly used system in shaft mounted gear box unit.

Thanks,

stanveer
