GOV SPECIFICATIONS

10/18/2009 4:35 PM

In my last position, I ran into this mil spec and wanted to know if anyone ever followed it.

MIL-TFP-41C which has something to do with print reading.

lynlynch nailed it! Its not a mil spec its 'professional jargon.'

Not in my ancient and dustyVSMF locators volumes...

I would'nt have heard it cuz my guys ALWAYS make it exactly to the print. 100% on time every time.

(yeah right)

This was true at our plant too. If someone found something wrong they were fired on the spot.

I have to come clean here. Although I spent ten years of my life managing mechanical engineering departments, and running injection molding facilities for five, I had never came across this until I Googled it.

I'm like Milo, our stuff was usually "close enough for government work".Space Shuttle/orbital electronics/warfare electronics.

I checked witha fellow inganeer and he knew about it, but said it needed a C on the end. Now I see further down in the string that the C was in fact added. I guess I live in a protected world.

Kyoto,

There was a "C" at the end of most every one, except #2, the one I typed in instead of copying. I left the "C" off that one.

Cheers.

Hi bb,

Thanks for the kind gesture. I'm not sure that being able to search Google is really deserving of GA votes. But, the question was answered, so, I'll take the votes in the spirit they were given.

Cheers.

Hi lynlynch.

I think it perhaps as you hint, does not take much to google this but, you did it and got the answer for the OP and maybe other to view?

And BTW the OP could have done the same think as you but didn't.

Thanks for the kind gesture. I'm not sure that being able to search Google is really deserving of GA votes. But, the question was answered, so, I'll take the votes in the spirit they were given.

I am not familiar with MIL-TFP41C, I usually used MIL-TFP41 or 41A.

The A stands for A**Hole.......

This was usually reserved for special cases.

What does the C stand for?

Hi Randouli,

Check this site out and you will see as lynlynch says, it is meant to be taken "literally". Yours and many other "In" phrases which perhaps started of as a joke but are now part of Engineering history nomenclature are listed here.

Lynlynch gave the 'kind' rendition to this meanin. The actual meaning is a little too shall we say "spicy" to quote here!

Yes and I appreciate his straight answer to my post.

The post was a kind of tongue in cheek tribute to a welding engineering friend of mine. He was the king of sarcasm and an OSU grad.

Years ago, one military program proceeded successfully, but didn't have an official name. A junior officer asked the senior officer in charge what they should call the program. I particularly like the last on this list.
