Videos Skipping

10/20/2009 1:14 PM

Hi, Another new problem. When watching videos, the video skips a few seconds every so often. I have installed the same codecs as before, and am trying to play the same videos as before. It happens with Media Player and AVS dvd player. Music doesn't skip though when playing, it is perfect.Any ideas?

I have the same problems (I think its the graphic card drivers). Try updating to the latest codec package and updating to the latest graphics card drivers. Note - check the web regarding your graphics driver version as some work better than others, and newest does not necessarily mean best (or bug free).

As the other poster said it is probably related either to your video card or the codecs being used. Which codec pack do you use? I usually use K-Lite.

When you said you "installed the same codecs as before" did you wipe your system? I would check the video card manufacturer's website to see if there is an updated driver you can install.

Also have you tried using VLC Media Player?

Worst case scenario you could buy a new video card and see if that fixes the problem. If you still get the same issue you could return the card.

Yes, I have got K-lite. Yes, I had to reinstall due to viruses. I have updated the video card driver. I installed from the disk and then downloaded a newer version. I have an ATI 3450. I have tried VLC, but didn't like it. I have had previous experience with it too. I am hoping to buy a new card soon but im not sure as to when.

if you have too many apps running and/ or do not have enough ram, video will skip some. does it play differently if your video image is small, or will it skip in normal as well as fullscreen?open task manager and watch for it to near or hit 100%

It is the same whether it is playing in full screen or not. The CPU usage is about 5%. I have Phenom 2.3GHz x4 and 2 Gigs Ram.

It's a message from Bill saying it's time to move to his next O/S because he is a little short on gasmoney for his yacht so we all must contribute to that

Grow up. Yes I know you did not invent Windows and are not getting rich from it. Yes I know that makes you jealous but, we are tired of your bitching.

This problem is really bad. It plays a 24 second clip in 9 seconds. It doesn't skip though with media player classic.

Clean your laser, also kill as many background processes that are running check the system tray for example. Also make your DVD player high priority in the tasks that are running in admin. tools. Music has less bandwidth than video that is why it works.
