CD Player Won't Play CDs

10/26/2009 11:05 AM

2001 7.3 Diesel Ford Excursion, 6-CD Changer, it decided to stop playing and go to "cd error" on the display. Can not eject or load any CD's. The unit will not play CD's either. The radio and all other functions on the unit work fine.

I have removed Power to the unit (pulled off the battery cables) and there is no change.

Any ideas of what to do would be much appreciated.

Thanks

First of all, many CD players and changers have a manual eject capability, you'd have to check the manual to find out. If you don't have a copy, I'm sure you can find one on line. Second, what brand is it, Delco or did that vehicle have the Bose for Ford in it? If Bose, their service center will take calls and put you in touch with a tech over the phone, for free. The electronic issue could be one of many many things, there isn't one thing that sends the error message to the screen so check all the trouble shooting options in the back of the manual and if one of those doesn't work - you are in for opening it up and taking it in to the shop (ouch).

Double ouch, yes to the Delco. I will look on line and in the service manual. I was just hoping for the magic fix........BTW how well does the solar powered light saber work away from the sun and in night fights.

Must be a pretty heavy and tough lithium.

Loved the line though, go green light sabers......could be a great marketing toy to get pattened right away.

Too funny! I guess I need to hurry and register my CR4 tag line!! Nope no magic fix like, oh that model, those always present an error message when the kid puts a slice of pizza in the changer slot...unless someone out there actually knows of a silver bullet on that one, but give it's a Delco, it's probably just "broken."

Nope I am sure its not pizza we are a deep dish family. If any one of my kids bought a thin crust like that and put it in my CD player I would disown them.

Not to mention this would be their bill to take care of.

On a serious note I think it is time that you take your idea to the shark tank and get them investing.

Find the clips and pull the front cover off. Remove the top fasteners and reveal player, clean lens etc., use thin instrument to push "CD" out, re-assemble.

Hold player in hand level to surface of table then drop it, if no change of operation drop in circular file.

The manual eject is a small hole use a sowing needle and push if you see this. Try a different CD after ejecting any CD stuck in the changer.
