The bearing crush (Journal bearing) is the pressure on the parting plane (or split line) of the bearing when these are assembled in tha housing.

Assume the bearing halves are protruding beyond the ideal diameter line. Then as it is assembled in the housing then it gets squeezed along the vertical axis (assuming the split line is in horizontal axis). This squeeze or the crush is passed on to the joint plane.

It is used to have a proper tight contact on the joint, avoid the movements/slips and also some times used to give the just right amount of ovality to the bore to have the proper oil circulation.

There may be two ways of manufacturing

- on the bearing by making two halves separately on fixture.

- In the housing by making the housing non-circular (the easiest eay we follow is to put the predetermined shims on tha parting plane and then bore it. When the shims are removed for final assembly, you get the crush (equal to the shim thickness)
