FDY POY FOY - Polypropylene Fiber for Braiding?

11/02/2009 1:40 AM

Question about fibers and yarns:

What kind of polypropylene yarn is suitable for braiding ropes and tapes? There are some kinds such as FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn), POY and FOY? Do they vary in cost dramatically? (Typically for braiding ropes, 600-900-1200 denier yarn is used, but I am not knowledgeable about the various kinds or the advantages. Any pointers? books? industry reports?

thanks!

If there is one thing we do not need it is another cheap ass Poly-P rope. Chose another material which produces a quality product instead of some piece of garbage that degrades in a week of sunlight exposure, doesn't take a knot, and breaks down leaving thousands of fibers to irritate your hands. I suggest nylon or kevler or even hemp.
