Thickened Wall Paint

11/09/2009 12:06 AM

In 1980s in western U.S.,a thickened latex wall paint was sold in a tray for roller application. Does anyone know the mfr.,thickening method used and why it was removed from the market?

Thanks, Artfarmer.

I remember this stuff. It was thixotropic. When there was no shear = semi sold, under shear it flowed. The maker could use cheap thickener so it went on thick and covered in one coat, but the square feet per can suffered.

There was a paint in a tray sold in Australia by Dulux called "Solid Paint".

Because it couldn't be tinted there were no enough colours to choose from.

My wife loved it because it didn't splatter - now she can paint properly she looks back on it as not-so-good because it was hard to apply.
