Fastenal Product Standard: FNL.GF.ST.SSPage 2 of 2 July 21, 2006This document was printed on 1/28/2008 and was current at that time. Please check current revision date to avoid using obsolete copies.Specification Requirements:• Dimensions: SAE J534.• Material: Body: 303 stainless steel.Spring: 302 stainless steel.Ball: 440 stainless steel.• Mechanical Properties: SAE J534. The greasing end of fittings and threaded end of special thread form fittings must have a case depth of .005" to .009" with minimum hardness of HRC 44.• Threads: 1/8"-27 PTF Pipe threads per SAE J476. ¼"-28 SAE-LT Taper-thread as specified in SAE J534.

• Finish: Cleaned or de scaled.

This doesn't say. But, I'd say that the strength of the spring would not need to be especially stiff. It just needs to close the valve when the grease flow stops.

Oh, after you read this, destroy it.

how much pressure it takes to overcome the ball valve of a standard zerk fitting will depend upon the setting of the spring, obviously .
