flow indicator

11/15/2009 5:46 AM

I have received a flow indicator (FI) with venturi flow element. Flow indicators range is 0 - 2500 us gpm.

Flow indicator is having differentail pressure port to be connect to venturi element.

But my problem only in FI ....i have not installed it and differentail pressure ports are closed.

Problem

when the FI is in vertical position its indicator rests in 0 gpm but when i tilt it a little bit its indicator diflects to 580 gpm.Tilt is very little. If i keep FI horizontaly its indicator deflects to 1000gpm

pls tell me is it a problem.

But mountig in the field will be in vertical position.

Install it per the manufacturer's instructions prior to asking for help. Better yet, have a qualified instrument technician install it and it will likely work fine.

Do you understand how a "FI" works?

u didnt understand the problem.

Any FI u take, if it is verticaly installed FI.if vertical position moves a little without input pressures, the Indicator should not deflect promptly to 100gpm or 560gpm.

Condider input differential ports are closed. we are checking the material in the warehouse. in this situation this problem is found.

I am assuring you any FI ,PI you take, the deflection in any position should be minimum(if it is not installed and input port is closed).

i asked to experienced persons, is it ok.

But vendor replied to me that, FI is to be calibratedand they agreed with mty coment.

the guy who made above post, i think he is a fresher or doesnt know, thats why mailed like this.

I asked this to many instrumentation expertise(from ISA also), they also said not accpetable.

DONT TEACH ME WHETHER I KNOW THE FUNCTION OF FI OR NOT, IF U HAVE THE PROPER ANSWER GIVE IT ELSE DONT REPLY, BEFORE GOVING THE ANSWER THINK FIRST.

What kind of indicator is it? If it is a gage type indicator, the needle at 0 gpm is affected by gravity so it is at rest at 0. Any deviation from the manufacturers recommended mounting orientation may cause the needle to indicate something other than 0 gpm. This can be corrected when the indicator is calibrated (see the manufacturers installation manual, this should give you directions on calibration and setup, if not contact the manufacturer.). Also, any shock to the indicator may cause it not to read 0 gpm at 0 psid. This may be an indication that the indicator is broken. The only way to determine this is through a bench calibration.

I hope this helps

Good Luck
