PLC 1774 Equipment

01/09/2007 12:38 PM

Hi there

I would like to know if anyone has any use for any AB 1774 PLC equipment. We have finished upgrading our systems and have a large amount of this equipment. Ifyou are interested in this equipment please e-mail at dnorment@smeci.net

Thank you

Darold

Just curious, what did you upgrade to? Did you stick with AB/Rockwell or did you go with some other Processor? If you did stick with AB, what were your motivations?

We upgraded to AB PLC-5. We currently have 11 systems using AB PLC-5 equipment and this was the last system to be upgraded. Another reason is that PLC-5 is user freindly, and our people are use to the software.

Older Allen Bradley CNC Controls used some 1774 boards. You might try to advertise to CNC board suppliers.

You can sell them to a company that tests and reselle used PLC components, like this one.

Pity I'm on the other side of the planet. Anyway don't throw them away you would be surprised by the second hand PLC market. Back in the early 1980s I did product support for the Struthers-Dunn PLCs but have been out of the game for some time. I had a look the other day to see if there were still any about and found a company that is selling second hand units for roughly the same price they were new over 20 years ago.

I think what happens is that many smaller users have no idea how their systems work so they have no way of upgrading or replacing existing systems with later technology. As a result when they experience a failure the only solution is to pay an exorbitant price for a second hand unit that they can do a direct swap with.

Failing that I am sure that a technical college or training school might be interested in them as a training tool.
