Cable Clamp Suppliers

11/18/2009 11:25 AM

I've been trying to find a source, hopefully in the UK, for simple bar type cable clamps. This is like you used to get in UK 3 pin mains plugs, a small strip of fibre board with 2 holes at about 17mm centres. We've been using the clamp from a multi-way connector, it was cost effective to throw the rest of the connector away, but they've changed the design to a metal clamp.

You would think that someone is making these by the bucket load, does anyone know who? The only company I found that had been making them had stopped & scrapped the tooling.

Don't know any current suppliers, but it shouldn't be too expensive to get a press tool knocked up - the tolerances wouldn't be very onerous - to use in a fly-press. Can you find a supplier for the fibre board (or something similar which would serve)?

I do a lot of work for a precision engineering outfit - I'll get you a rough estimate for the tool if you want (probably be a lot more than you need to pay - they do very good but expensive stuff).

What sort of quantity of the clamps are you looking for? Once the tool is made & material sourced (& both paid for), the unit cost would be tiny.

Another thing that comes to mind is something like getting the biggest cable tie you can find, cutting it into suitable lengths & (if you only need small quantities) banging some holes in with eg a Dremel drill (or a small drill press - or even a fly-press - if you have one).

John & Suresh, my problem, as with everything we make, is that the quantities are small. As John said I could get tooling made but, considering the number of these clamps you see in connectors etc., someone must already be making these in quantity.

This clamp will be on the outside of a product we make so it will have to look reasonable.

Hi Nigh,

I understand your problem of quantity. I think here it may available in small qutty as standard accessory. If you send me the sketch then I can find out if it is standard product. Here there are many mfrs. of electric accessories and they use such clamp for their 3 pin plugs. I will ask the supplier to directly quote to you and small qutty can be sent by Post as air parcel. This is just to help you to solve your problem.

Thanks for the offer.

This is the basic shape but the outside profile could vary a little if your suppliers have something that is close.

Hi Nigh,

I tried to locate this part here in Mumbai, it is not sold as standard product. Switch mfrs have their own venders who supply them. I am still trying with other sources. I think this item is very small and you can punch it on a hand press but you will have to invest in small dies.As being small I feel die cost of dies may not be very high. Other alternative can be you can buy fiber sheet and cut the strips and drill hole on small drilling machine. You can take 10 strips at a time. Also instead rounding the ends you can keep them square. This my wild guess I dont know your actual application.
