Load Calculations for an Apartment

11/20/2009 1:13 PM

When calculating the loads for an apartment that are not located in the dwelling units how do you deal with : multiple 3 phase motor loads, 3 phase and single phase transformers and single phase loads.

Quote "When calculating the loads for an apartment that are not located in the dwelling units "

What do you mean by the underlined comment. Is it a single apartment?

Then consider it is not an apartment, but it is a factory.

Make all calculations depending on this mantality.

Do not forget reactive load compensation as well.

If you have to ask this question, you are not qualified to do the work.Consult the 2008 NEC.All the info is in there. However, the NEC is not intended to be instructive. This is where experience comes in.Most states require a minimum of 5 years experience before taking the exam. And there are many levels of licensing, depending on the difficulty and scope of the job.

For me to tell you how to do it would be a violation of my license by encouraging an unqualified person to do this work, and could make me liable as an accessory for any damages that ensue.

I don't know where you are located, but in the States you are on your own, and at your own risk.

HI. I,M NOT SO GOOD IN THIS FIELD BUT IT IS RECOMMENDED TO GIVE SUCH JOB TO THE SPECIALISED CONSULTANTS . YOU MAY PLAY WITH ANY THING YOU WISH. BUT NOT WITH GUSSING THE DESIGN OF 3PHASES OR NOT EVEN SINGLE PHASE.

Here's how I deal with it: I call an electrician. You should do the same. Or maybe you can't, cause is an illicit factory. Tough muff.

In apartments, normally there are no 3- phase motors or single phase motors.

Also there are no transformers--1 phase or 3 phase.

However, if you are referring to laundry washer and dryer loads, these are considered as in dwelling units.

Well I am a P.E.E in profession but i think everyone who are graduated in Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering knows very well the basic and simple computation of loads of dwelling unit(single or multiple family dwelling) and dwelling apartment as well. To save time for us and for you too...just make your personal research and read all topics of National Electrical Code Manual latest edition. In chapter 9 there is tables and examples that may probably an answer to your question.. Good Luck but dont forget to include your profit and commission.
