VALVE WITH DIFFERENT SCHEDULE AT BOTH END

11/23/2009 10:51 PM

I HAVE A PIPE WITH DIFFERENT SCHEDULE IN THE INLET SIDE AND OUTLET SIDE OF THE VALVE. IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE VALVE WITH DIFFERENT THICKNESS (SCHEDULE) ON BOTH THE END. IT IS NORMAL PRACTISE OR NOT POSSIBLE.

SAME WAY ON THE REDUCER THERE IS A SCHEDULE CHANGE ON THE LARGE SIDE AND SMALL SIZE OF THE REDUCER. CAN I ORDER OR SPECIFY IN BOQ FOR REDUCER OF 400 X 300 WITH SCH 80 X SCH 40. IS THIS NORMAL PRACTISE ?

Capital letters annoy some of our more sensitie viewers. In the petrochemical industry I have never seen a valve with different schedule flanges.

theres no difficulty in fitting because varing schdule there is change in only inner diameter and outer dia. is always same in all schedules

Based on your question we must assume you are talking about a Valve with Butt-Weld ends. Correct?

If so then this would not be unusual. The Valve would be a higher pressure to match the up-stream conditions. Therefore the upstream end of the valve would be bored to match the inside diameter of the (thicker wall) upstream pipe. Since the valve is at the end of the high pressure condition, the downstrean end of the valve is taper bored to match the inside diameter of the thinner wall downstream pipe.
