HVAC Fans

Hi all,

I am finding it very difficult to find specfic information regarding the following questions, your help would be most appreciated.

a) For what reasons would a Contra-Rotating Axial Fan (i.e. two Axial fans place in a series, impellers rotate in opposite directions) be used instead of a Single Stage Fan?

b) Why is a Contra-Rotating Axial Fan used as opposed to a Multi-Stage Axial Fan (i.e. two or more fans place in a series) for this purpose?

I think it's to do with the Pa

Thanks chaps!

I can think of two reasons, they may not be right, but worth a thought.

1) C.R.B. will exhibit almost no torque on the mount, as the blades will cancel each others out. A smaller one can be built and not interfere with the flow.

2) Wind flow should have less turbulence by the reduction of vortices and rotation than that would be from a multi stage inline assembly.

I'm thinking that you see this type of setup in wind-tunnels.
