Troubleshooting an Amag Security System

11/30/2009 7:10 AM

Is there anyone out there that can help troubleshoot an amag security system, the system is primarly used to lock and unlock doors and for some panic switches. I am the end user and the company that installed the system wants to charge our company every time there is a problem with the system. I have installed some very technical systems before but Amag has kept there o and m manuals very basic. thank you.

Very unprofessional of your security installer to withhold documentation.

While unfamiliar with workings of AMAG products, the website is pretty informative. http://www.amag.com/ Also, you should be able to contact customer service (have serial numbers ready) for their assistance.

I assume it is interface or software problems? Or is the trouble physical installation of exit devices, locks, magnets, contacts.... ?

Amag will not speak to you unless you are certified installer, but thankyou for the info.

Wow... investigation reveals AMAG is, indeed, vigorously protective of their intellectual property. And so you, as end used, have paid a substantial amount of money for their equipment and software. And so, without knowing it (more on this in a minute), you have volunteered to be held hostage for, jeez I don't know, twelve years or so. I have come across a few others circumstances like this, and you just might be stuck (not sure that is the right word) with original installer.

Boy, this is sad... manufacturers data sheets thump the drum of customer service. When you really read all the information, manufacturer believes 'customer' is their dealers, and the factory extends no service to the end user.

In all fairness to AMAG, did you (or an agent) sign some kind of agreement for service? If yes, does it indicate subsequent service and parts will only be available from original dealer? If yes, there is really nothing else to do but honor your half of the deal.
