Stepdown Transformer 33 KV/0.433KV

12/16/2009 4:32 AM

What are the merits and demerits of stpping down directly 33/0.433kv instead of stepping down to 11kv & then 0.433kv?

The benifits are

1. Cost benifit of single transformer instead of 2 transformers

2. Saving in switch gear, cable, 1 switch gear cost will be saved

3. Protection relays cost of 1 set will be saved

4. Less copper losses

5. Improved reliability

Merits have been already known to you

but the demerits are

1.In case of transformer breakdown total power source will be interrupted,

but if you use the intermiddiate transformation then you have the oppertunity

to increase reliability.

2.Harmonics will definitely increase

.

In Single transformer i.e 33/.433KV Transformer, The harmonic effect will be less, Inrush currents also will be less compared to the multiple transformer
