SS310 AND SS321

Hello Friend

Can any one suggest any solution in order to avoid the failure of SS321 and SS310 plates used in a media which is acidic in nature having a temp of 1200 degree celcius,presently we are using PYRO CARB electrode to hard face the plates but they are not provide us a good life.

As per ASM handbook

Max temperature of continuous use for SS321 is 925oC and SS310 is 1150oC.

You are crossing this limit and infact in a acidic environment. Are you sure it must be steel?

I don't know the spec of this electrode or its behaviour in this environment.

In case you have to use steel, did you consider plasma spraying some ceramics instead of hard facing?

I will advice to go otherway round, istead of using SS and finding how to use it, find something that can stand it (again best solution may be ceramics or some W compounds) and then plan how to use them. Say WC (Tungsten carbide)

Dear friend thanks for your quick reply,the exact application is the use of these plate is in showel bucket repair,the enviroment where these plates is to be has high magnetic field and it is installed in over head cranes and during the application the bucket undergoes high impact also.So pls suggest any substitue of ss or any technique to avoid its abrassion

Try either euroinox or euro inox on the web. From their tables I think that 409 would be a better choice since you seem to need strength and impact resistance at temperature more than corrosion resistance.

Then there is the inconel family of materials. Cost-life justification issues there.
