Does anyone know how the new Samsung ultra thin screen lcd interprets and projects images is it a mirror system of some kind?

Not sure if this is what you're asking, but the images are created by the LCD screen, which is lit from behind (or from the edges) by LEDs.

"LED" sets are really LCD sets with LED backlighting instead of flourescent. That is, a panel of LEDs covered by a sheet of LCD material. By varying the LED brightness, they can get to blacker blacks than the flourescent/LCD sets.
