Cylindrical Pressure Vessel Flat Head Calculations

12/29/2009 12:40 PM

Hi,

I have designed a thin wall cylindrical pressure vessel with hemispherical bottom following ASME sect VIII div 1, 2.

I would like to know how I can calculate the thickness of a flat head (flange) to be placed on top of the vessel to close it.

Thanks a lot!

Regards

David

ASME Section 8 Division 1, Article UG-34 should have all you need.

For design of flat heads connected with bolts, like as blind flanges, as per ASME code, Section VIII, Division 1, download the attached file in PDF formats: Blind_Flange_Design_Calculations.

Also, see the following CR4 Thread: Calculating Flange Thickness.
