Distance degrees

01/01/2010 8:53 AM

Good morning and Happy New Year!

There have been several posts the past year about obtaining degrees (degrees, not education) in a quick and inexpensive way. I have some interest in adult education and know a little about this subject.

If you require a degree, rather than the actual courses and education, then there are two very good schools that can match credentials to your knowledge. Those are Excelsior College and Thomas Edison State College. I have given links to both because there are other "schools" with similar names.

I have no connection to either school except that I have a degree from Excelsior (back when it was called Regents, which I like better as a name but they didn't ask me).

Both schools have actual addresses, both are accredited, both are quite respectable, and both offer degrees that are widely (but not universally) accepted. Both are easy to participate in, offer credits for a wide variety of courses and course equivalents, and both are reasonably priced. The schools do offer courses, but are big on recognizing and validating what you have already learned elsewhere - maybe at other colleges, in the military, and so on.

Again, I have no connection with either one, but I would be willing to assist anyone looking to go this route, either out here in plain view or by PM.

Hello TVP45

I have some experience in this area too. I actually finished my BS EET degree at Excelsior in the fall of 2007. Do you have any experience with post graduate work with your Regents degree?

Thanks
