Corrosion allowance - additional thickness

For steel pipe that will be used for potable water pipiline application , if the pipe has internal cement lining and external PE coating , do we have to consider the corrosion allowance ? or to consider it ZERO ? if yes , what is the value that you recommned ? 1/16" , 1/32" , or what you recommned ? any information for how to estimate it ? I need to confirm this value as I need to calulate the minimum wall thickness for steel pipe ??

This question is related to previous question for steel pipes according to ASTM A53 Gr.B and ERW.

Hi

Normally it is a practice to take 1.5 mm as corrosion allowance on carbon steel pipes

This may be considered slightly off topic but I have to ask. Potable or drinking water is transported in PE pipe with no requirement for corrossion allowance. Why are you considering any other material.

I know that with proper external protection and impressed current cathodic protection steel pipelines have very good life spans as Natural Gas transmission lines but of course they are not carrying Oxygen rich water. Cement lining makes for expensive installations as the pipe cannot be snaked into the trench after jointing. It has to be jointed in the trench so jequires joint pockets in the trench at considerable cost. Cement lining is used with mechanical joints and ductile iron pipe in the water industry in the UK, but the distance between joints is either 3 or 6m.

Due to cement lining from internal, the corrosion allowance shall be zero, but if you considered a worst case, you can assume a corrosion allowance of 1/16" or more, which depends on the life time of your piping system.
