Busbar Hangar Support Design Calculations

01/04/2010 9:21 AM

Dear All,

Currently, i am working on a busbar installation project and i need to come out recommended spacing of hangar supports for horizontal run of 60metres. The busbar supplier for this project have recommendation of 1 horizontal mounting (threaded rod) with every 3 metres but due to my country norm practice, we normally space at 1.2 to 1.7 metres for the support hangar. Could anyone advise me on any link that i can actually take it for reference for my hangar support calculations or kindly help me on those calculations. The current rating of the busbar is 1250A, weight as 21.5kg/m, SWL is 600kg for a single threaded rod. The owner had specified a 1.5metres spacing and i need to do the calculation as per their request. PLEASE HELP I AM NEW IN THIS FIELD.

1... If you ignore the manufacturers recommendations on hangar support, you loose the ability to go back on the manufacturer for any warranty claims.

2... By not following the manufacturers recommendations on hangar support, you void the certification that the product received when it was certified.

The Busbar trunking generally comes in shipping sections of 2.4 met or 3 met.

General rule of thumb is every shipping section should have two supports say at a equal distance of 1.2 /1.5 met.

In your case assuming shipping section of 2.4 met. the weight of bus trunking per shipping section works out to 21 x 2.4=50.4 kg.Since there will be two threaded rods per support, this will suffice.

hi

the manufacture will consider all the factors involved in hanging the bus bar. so need not to worry. just follow the manufacture recommendations. one support for every 3m is sufficient.

thx
